Hmm... There is no verb... I wonder I missed hearing "say" after "I". What is "my guy"? Does it mean my boyfriend? Why isn't there "to" before "my"?
Checking the script. Correct sentence is
"Could I hire you as my guide?"
"How are you"... "hire you"...

He he, it's funny how we seem to hear things wrong sometimes. Just a question of practice, I guess!
Pronunciation of Engkish is very difficult. I sometimes hear wrong even Japanese though. Haha.
