Japanese language spoken in the drama "HEROES"

In the U.S. drama "HEROES", there are two Japanese, Hiro and his co-worker Ando. Hiro speaks Japanese well, although every Japanese people can know from his accent that he is not a Japanese.
But I can't understand well what Ando says. Why don't the filmmakers choose an actor that can speak decent Japanese for the part of a Japanese?

By the way, I wonder why Japanese subtitle is often different from what they speak.

Hey,
It shouldn't be 'a Japanese'. It should be just 'Japanese'.
ie.Hiro is Japanese. I am Japanese.
I often wonder that too. Must be loads of Japanese actors in the US.

Oh! Really? So I should say "he/She is American", not "an American"? "PA is British", not "a British"? Oh... I see. They are not used as nouns, but as adjectives.
What a shock!
I have been studying English for a long time and even using it on business, but I didn't know such a basic thing!
Thank you so much, PA!
Most native speakers and people who can speak English fluently tend not to point out other's wrong English. So I'd really appreciate it if people let me know my wrong English.

I like films and TV dramas in general, when I can steal a few minutes to see one. But it drives me batty to hear non-native Japanese spoken by characters in those movies, especially when even mine might be better than that, lol.

Another one is, when the powers-that-be pick non-Japanese actors to play Japanese roles. I like Zhang Ziyi and think she is talented, but there are plenty of talented Japanese actresses, and probably one or two who can speak English well enough to do whatever role.

Rick-san, your Japanese is almost perfect! It's always much better than other non-Japanese's one.

Yes, there are talented Japanese actresses who can speak English. Unfortunately, there is a lack of publicity, compared with others like Zhang Ziyi...

tomususan,

Oh! You like Hiro. I think Mashi Oka who acts Hiro is very smart and intelligent. Also his Japanese are improving a lot! (^.^)
